17 TOWNS OF THE COSTA BRAVA THAT ARE GOING TO LOVE YOU

17 TOWNS OF THE COSTA BRAVA THAT ARE GOING TO LOVE YOU

31 01 - 2020

rocks of Cap de CreusIf Costa Brava is distinguished by something, it is because of its towns and places that people who visit them fall in love with.

So if you are going to spend the holidays in Roses or want to visit the area, you should know these 17 towns of the Costa Brava that will make you fall in love.

We assure you.

On the Costa Brava we have great places and spectacular coastal towns bathing the Mediterranean from the border with France to the South with the Costa del Maresme.

It's hard to keep only 17 villages, but we'll try.

We have organized this article from south to north so you can follow a clear order and have a guide. That to complicate your life there are already others.

THE 17 TOWNS OF THE COSTA BRAVA YOU MUST VISIT

1. Tossa de Mar

tossa de mar costa bravaTossa de Mar is a picturesque town that after visiting it is forever in your retina.

We tell you about a charming and picturesque town that will give you one of the most beautiful photographs of the entire Catalan coast.

It stands out for its promenade, its wall and the old castle dating from the twelfth century. You will feel like in a story.

It is a journey through history. And if you want more, you can enter its streets. An atypical medieval town with an old town full of cobbled houses and spectacular views.

We have beautiful beaches in Tossa such as Beach d'es Codolar on foot from the Castle of Tossa de Mar and Cala Pola. There is no better way to start this trip on the Costa Brava.

2. Sant Feliu de Guixols

sant feliu de guixolsIf you like to drive and you decide to go to Sant Feliu de Guixols from Tossa de Mar you can do it on a spectacular road through beautiful creeks and views of the Mediterranean Sea. It is a winding road, yes.

If you cannot do it from the interior reaching Llagostera, but you will miss one of the most spectacular coastal roads on the Costa Brava.

Sant Feliu de Guixols is a beautiful town where you will find several interesting places to visit. Although he doesn't fall in love as much as Tossa.

From Sant Feliu I would highlight the main beach, the Port and Cala Jonca. You also have other interesting places such as the Monastery, the Porta Ferrada of the 10th century and the History Museum.

If you like adventure you have a Via Ferrata to face the sea.

3. S'Agaró and Playa de Aro

Connected by a road and 3 kilometers from Sant Feliu we have S'Agaró, not too remarkable, but with a very beautiful picture on the beach with its colorful wooden huts.

The truth is that there is much more to say about this town.

Next to S'Agaró we have Playa de Aro, without much more to highlight than the Camino de Ronda that runs along the Costa Brava.

Perhaps one of the least charming villas in the area, but that being passing through and known is worth mentioning. If something good we have in Playa de Aro is the amount of leisure both night and day with its different water amusement parks.

Really if there are any people that you could skip this list are these two.

4. Calella de Palafrugell

calella de palafrugellI have to admit that from here the scenery changes a lot and we enter the authentic Costa Brava. The one of the charming towns.

And the truth begins in a big way.

After crossing Playa de Aro and Palamós we find one of the most charming villages on the Gironian Coast: Calella de Palafrugell.

We speak of an authentic fishing village surrounded by numerous beautiful coves and buildings that touch the water.

If we have something to highlight about this town, it is the beauty of its beaches, its crystal clear water, its arches, views from the viewpoint and the many wooden boats stranded in the sand. Inspiring of different authors and singer-songwriters like Joan Manel Serrat and it doesn't surprise us.

Around Calella de Palafrugell we find the Botanical Garden of Cap Roig, full of different species of plants, and a well-known place in the area where the Cap Roig Festival is held every summer. A music festival where the main musicians of the international scene come.

One of the towns that yes or yes you must visit

5. Llafranch

This town being attached to Calella de Palafrugell lives a little in its shadow. Still it has its charm. In it you will find the lighthouse of San Sebastián, the most powerful of the entire Costa Brava and the Iberian site of Sant Sebastián de la Guarda.

A beautiful town with harbor and bay shape with beautiful waters and creeks around.

We only recommend it if you plan to visit Calella de Palafrugell.

6. Tamariu and Cala Aiguablava

tamariu costa bravaAs you will see on the map of Costa Brava villages that we have prepared below, Tamariu and Cala Aiguablava are the connection between Calella, Llafranc and the following villages.

Passing Llafranch and very close to Begur, we find this small coastal town set on a beach. White houses with a beautiful walk that surrounds the coast along the Camino de Ronda that we recommend traveling for a few kilometers.

We love it for its waters and for its many creeks, such as Aigua Xelida.

We have wanted to mention Cala Aiguablava on this list, because it is simply a creek, but what creek!

Surrounded by nature and with difficult access, in a completely natural environment, with a blue water that will make you fall in love.

A creek that you must visit and if you can, take a bath, you will want time to stop.

7. Begur

begur costa bravaBegur is one of the three named villages that has no coast but is well worth visiting.

It will help us to get to the following places, so we recommend giving it a try. Not only for that, but for its beautiful castle of Begur that we came for a walk from its old town, a climb that is worth doing if you have a good physique. If this is not the case, take it easy because the prize to bequest are spectacular views of the entire Costa Brava.

Stately homes and medieval times, watchtowers, a beautiful old town and a castle that you can not miss.

That is Begur.

8. Sa Tuna and L'Illa Roja

illa roja costa bravaIf you ask us what to visit on the Costa Brava apart from villages we would tell you to visit beaches. The beaches of the Costa Brava are of another level. And these two are a sample of it.

Sa Tuna is one of the most charming beaches on the entire Costa Brava, a creek with its right size, surrounded by pine trees and a beautiful picture with its white houses and its promenade. Without too much to do but rest and enjoy the sea breeze, 100% recommended to visit.

Following the road towards l'Illa Roja we will find Cala d'Aiguafreda and the beautiful Playa d'Illa Roja, offering spectacular views of a rock embedded in the coast. Your name? For the reddish color of sand and rocks.

9. Pals

pals costa bravaAgain leaving the coast behind we came across an inland town about a quarter of an hour from l'Illa Roja. A beautiful Medieval town called Pals.

Pals is one of the most beautiful medieval towns of the Costa Brava that you can find. What makes it so remarkable? Its castle built during the eleventh and twelfth centuries, the Church of San Pedro, its cobbled streets, gothic-style stone houses, watchtowers and walls that will impress you.Much to see of this beautiful medieval village of Ampurdán.

10. Peratallada

Peratallada is another charming medieval town, somewhat less known than Pals and that retains much of its architectural style of the time.

The best is your entrance to the walled town with an arch, the castle square and the Plaza de las Voltes. Apart from its colorful cobbled streets.

A town that we recommend visiting if you go to Pals.

11. L'Escala

beach escalaFollowing our route of populations of the Costa Brava we find La Escala.

A town very affected by the Tramuntana and the great waves in winter, but in summer and seasons of better weather we recommend you visit.

Its summer atmosphere and good vibes on the promenade will make you want the sunset to arrive, at which time the terraces and the promenade overflow with people, shops where you can buy souvenirs and joy.

From the Port and Platja de Riells, you can go along the huge promenade to the Platja del Rec del Molí and if you dare to continue to the village of Sant Martín de Ampurias that is next door and we will tell you below.

In short, the ideal place to stop to eat and visit its beautiful creeks and promenade.

From La Escala we also recommend visiting the Anchovy and Salt Museum and the Paseo Marítimo.

12. Sant Martín de Ampurias

We could not forget this small medieval town that is able to attract celebrities to marry him.

We talk to you about Sant Martín de Ampurias, a tiny, cobbled and elevated town above the sea that you can walk from La Escala if you like to walk.

If we talk about medieval villages on the Costa Brava, it may be the most authentic. In the high part the Parish of Sant Martí de Ampurias stands. Composed of restaurants and small cobbled streets.

Apart from this, what can you visit in this small town? The beach of El Portitxol where you will find a strange arch-shaped rock that leaves beautiful prints on the sunsets, the Ruins of Ampurias, of ancient Greek culture, later occupied by Romans.

13. Castellón de Ampurias

castello empuries villageFrom Sant Martí de Ampurias we recommend visiting Castellón de Ampurias directly, since along the way we will only find several villages that have little to offer.

A beautiful medieval town, interior and close to the coast.

From Castelló we recommend visiting the Basilica of Santa María de Castellón de Ampurias, the Museum of Medieval History and for the most curious, the Butterfly Park, a garden where you can see first hand a lot of butterflies, birds and reptiles.

If you are lucky enough to visit it in September you will enjoy a medieval party that will make you feel in the Middle Ages.

14. Empuriabrava

The next step of the route we recommend visiting the well-known population of Empuriabrava, belonging to Castellón de Ampurias.

We are sure that you have heard about her and her famous over 30 kilometers of navigable canals. Houses, apartment complexes, luxurious yachts and a beautiful street with a shopping area where you will find shops of many things, both clothes, decoration, supermarkets and restaurants.

You can tour the canals by boat, visit the "Aiguamolls de l'Empordà", its horse riding and parachute in the Windoor. A beautiful tourist town with plenty of leisure activities.

15. Roses

crike canyelles petites rosesOur Roses. This population gives its name to what is called the Bay of Roses, one of the most beautiful bays in the world, which begins in Cap de Creus and ends in the Massís del Montgrí.

In Roses you will find a good hotel and gastronomic offer, a long and beautiful seafront of about four kilometers that runs through Santa Margarita to the port.

At the foot of the port begins the so-called Puig Rom, a beautiful mountain of 200 meters that is illuminated by the houses during the night and that is worth visiting to see the views of the entire Bay, the Costa Brava and the Pyrenees.

Beautiful creeks such as La Pelosa or Almadrava, good leisure offer such as Aquabrava, Karting, diving, minigolfs and many historical sites to visit in Roses, such as the Ciutadella or the Trinidad Castle.

If you decided to spend a few days in Roses we have several holiday apartments in Roses.

16. Cadaqués

cadaques costa bravaArriving at the end of our route through the Costa Brava we find the most charming town in the entire Costa Brava, Cadaqués.

Cadaqués is a small coastal town, hardly known, given its beauty and world-renowned painter who lived in it.

Cadaqués is made up of a beautiful promenade, white houses, cobbled streets, beautiful bars and restaurants on the beach and a small but intense slope that runs through the old town with charming streets until reaching the Church of Santa María.

From Cadaqués we recommend visiting the town and making the journey along the Camino de Ronda until reaching the Cala Nans Lighthouse. Visit Portlligat, where you will find the Salvador Dalí House Museum and get to know Cap de Creus, the most Eastern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. A place of enormous beauty, where you can see the Cala Jugadora and Cala Culip, the Paradela de Tudela, with the well-known rocks in Eagle and Camel fora, here you have more information about the rocks of Cap de Creus

17. Port de la Selva and Llançà

Port de la Selva is a small coastal town near Cadaqués. It maintains the same style as the previous one, from which we can visit the Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes (it can also be done from Roses before going to Cadaqués).

Llançà is another small town located on the Costa Brava that we recommend visiting, with a beautiful promenade along the Camino de Ronda, several restaurants and souvenir shops and a beautiful port governed by El Castellar. An ancient islet through which Llançà is recognized, with a historical past, finding vestiges of the 10th century B.C. During the Second Republic, around 1931, several bunkers were built on the top.

ROUTE TO TRAVEL THE PRETTY TOWNS OF THE COSTA BRAVA

When it is time to decide a route to visit these villages, we recommend visiting them in several days, to go well 3 or 4 days if you want to visit all. If you want to see each other in less days we recommend reducing the visit to the most emblematic villages.

We love the Costa Brava and therefore it would be difficult to keep the most beautiful villages leaving others behind, but in that case we would start the route through Calella de Palafrugell, leaving the previous ones for another occasion.

In the following map you have the route that we recommend to be able to travel these towns in the least amount of kilometers and without losing anything interesting. We talk about 200 kilometers, so it is impossible to travel in a day without missing something interesting. Luckily, many of these towns, as you will see, are quite close and it will be possible to travel them in one day, but when the distances get longer, things get complicated.

The locations are as approximate as possible since they usually use local and local roads and are not reflected on the map, so the route is not entirely accurate but very indicative.

In case you came from France the route could be done perfectly starting with Llançà. You could even take Roses as a base and make different trips to the other towns.

For example Cadaqués, Port de la Selva and Llançà it is possible to visit them on the same day. Same as Castellón de Ampurias and Empuriabrava or Calella, Tamariu and Begur.
